I am immensely proud of all the fundraising that was done by all for the Marathon – thank you on behalf of DRCSAS to everyone who helped.
I am also immensely proud of my medal! It was a great day. Very hot and so much harder than I had anticipated but I am very glad to say successfully completed.
The atmosphere going around the 26.2 miles was amazing. There was so much support out there for DRCSAS. I had DRCSAS emblazoned on my front T shirt and so many people shouted from the side lines "Come on Devon". I also had Beverley on my back, and I noticed that a lot of women encouraged me as I went by and said "Keep going Beverley" – I found myself continuously looking around and thanking them – it was very touching, and even as I write this, I find it very emotional.
It was an emotional day – the heat, tiredness, pressure to finish, and support I received was amazing. Mandy and Ally travelled all the way to London just to glimpse me going by and cheer me on – it meant so much – thank you. X.
Lots of my family came and I probably had someone I knew every 4 miles – it was brilliant. The people of London also were incredible; so many sweets, drinks, ice pops, even burgers offered! The fire-fighters from the local station had hoses out showering runners to keep them cool as we went by – it was a joint community effort and one that I will never forget.
However to all those die hard athletes or couch potatoes out there, I will never do one again! Miles too far – literally. In fact about 13 miles too far! Half marathons or 10 K is absolutely plenty for me – in fact I have not gone out running since. I do however intend to don my running shoes soon; even if only to show off my London Marathon finishers T shirt!
Thank you once again for all your support. Hope you like the pictures. Beverley x
