Devon Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Services is pleased to host this training day with National Ugly Mugs (NUM) on Wednesday 22nd November 2017 10am – 4pm.

National Ugly Mugs (NUM) is a pioneering, national charity which provides greater access to justice and protection for sex workers who are often targeted by dangerous individuals but are frequently reluctant to report these incidents to the police. These offenders are often serial sexual predators who pose a huge risk to the public as a whole. Their Mission: Ending Violence against Sex Workers.

Who is this training relevant for?

Counsellors, therapists, practitioners, staff and volunteers from statutory and third sector organisations. If you work specifically with sex workers or sex workers access your service, this training will ensure that you are equipped to provide a quality support service in the most efficient and effective manner.

Aim

The training will provide you with the skills and knowledge to deliver non-judgemental and effective support to sex workers across Devon and Cornwall. Working together to identify and reduce the harms facing sex workers and their communities. To consider how we can make every contact with sex workers count.

Following the training you will have:

• Increased your knowledge on the diversity of sex work sectors
• Developed a greater understanding of the routes into sex working
• Developed your understanding of the difference between trafficking and choice
• Increased your knowledge about the risks to sex workers and know how to minimise these
• Improved your skills in meeting the direct needs of sex workers
• Developed your skills in delivering an effective non-judgemental, harm reduction service to sex workers
• Developed tools to help improve the safety of sex workers and assist in crime prevention

Details

The training event will be held at Exeter Community Centre, 17 St David’s Hill, Exeter, EX4 3RG, which is located in the heart of the city, close to public parking and bus and train stations. Directions and bus routes can be found at www.exetercommunitycentre.co.uk.

The training will run from 10am – 4pm, with registration and coffee from 9.30am onwards. A light lunch will be provided, as well as refreshments throughout the day. Dietary needs can be catered for.

A Certificate of attendance will be provided. Specific learning needs can be accommodated. Please contact us if you have any questions or want to talk anything through.

The cost of the day, including all refreshments, is £95 per person.

A £20 per person discount is available for third & voluntary sector organisations when 3 or more people book on to the training at the same time, making it only £75 per person.
