The Refugee and Asylym Seeker Women's Project is based in Bristol and can support women in the whole of the South West. Indrani Currie works at the Avon and Bristol Law Centre on this Comic Relief funded project to give expert legal advice to asylum seeking and refugee women with special regard for women who have been subject to sexual violence and/or domestic violence (the project is not affected by the cutbacks in legal aid). Indrani is able to come to Devon to provide support and has already carried out one session in Exeter at Refugee Support's drop in centre.
About Indrani: "I have been a senior immigration practitioner and supervisor for thirteen years. I have a special interest in working with women who have been subject to domestic and sexual violence and are subject to immigration control. I have taken cases to the High/Administration Court and Court of Appeal for a number of female clients".
In the short time the project has run in Bristol and the surrounding area they have been able to help a number of women who have been excluded from advice and representation.

What People Say About Us

"I think EMDR has allowed me to process things far more than I was expecting, it was more effective than I was anticipating and I was surprised at how much different I felt after having it."

Service User

"DRCSAS has made a massive difference, I feel I have found myself – no longer just focused on what happened to me. I deal with things so much better and have a positive outlook on life that wouldn't have happened without DRCSAS."

Service User

"I feel positive about the future, being able to control my thoughts and emotions rather than them controlling me. I was sceptical at first wondering if it would work but I am amazed at the results. Would definitely recommend to anyone"
